Genealogy Research Packages
To determine which project might best suit your needs, it is important to make a realistic assessment about how long different tasks take to complete during a standard research project. For records retrieval, online research, or projects that don’t require on the ground visits to different archives or geographical areas, the 10-hour block of research time might be worth considering. However, if your research requires brick wall research strategies, work on more than one surname, report writing, and visits to multiple archives, we would recommend one of the larger projects.
The 20 and 40-hour blocks of research time are generally the most popular projects we offer as they are cost-effective and customarily involve research on more than one surname. They also include report writing and on the ground research at various archives and libraries. For more complex cases involving finding living relatives, in-depth DNA analysis, research into multiple surnames, and on the ground research in court, probate, property, and cemetery records, we would usually recommend working in at least a 40-hour block of research time.
Although the 80-hour project is much more money upfront, it's actually a very good value at $80/hour if you plan on doing extensive research over the long term on multiple family lines going back to the 1600s and 1700s. Research into multiple family lines usually requires travel to many different locations and can be a very time-consuming and labor-intensive endeavor. This is especially true in the United States where records might need to be found at a variety of places including the Family History Library, county courthouses, historical societies, state archives, and public libraries. We also offer a couple of larger options at even lower hourly rates if those projects fit into your long-term genealogy research plans. All of these projects offer great savings as our standard hourly rate is $120/hour for telephone consultations, half-day projects, and records retrieval.
